Happy February! We are half way through our 2nd trimester of the school year. Mid-year conferences are coming up at the end of this month. Mid Year conferences are optional and can either be requested by the teacher or parent. Teachers will be putting out their conference schedules next week and sending home conference requests. If a conference is requested by the teacher, please be sure to send your form back ASAP.
Our website PBL Gallery has been updated with the 2nd Trimester PBL units. Grade levels are at various stages of their PBLS- some are just starting, some are in the middle and some have finished. Please be sure to check in and see what your students will be learning about in the upcoming weeks/months.
There have been a number of safety/traffic concerns recently. In observing arrival and dismissal, we have witnessed many parents and students jaywalking across Utica outside of the designated crosswalk, and parents letting their students out of the car on Utica at arrival, instead of turning into the parking lot and letting them out at the gate. I have also seen a number of left hand turns out of the parking lot. Often times this is a person who is unfamiliar with our valet process. Please be sure to inform the person that will be picking up your child the rules of the valet line.
The staff at Kinetic has a very difficult time policing parents and others for not following valet rules and traffic laws. If you witness something illegal, please utilize the HB Police Department traffic link which citizens can use to make complaints which alert HBPD. This would be a great way for you to inform HB Police Department of traffic issues that you observe in the area, especially during drop off and pick up times.
Directed Traffic Enforcement Requests
Please remember that valet is only offered by KA Staff at the end of the school day. This means that when you are picking students up from any after school program, you need to park and walk up to pick up your child. After school providers, clubs or groups do not provide valet. Thank you for understanding.
A "2018-2019 Mid-Year Parent Survey" was sent out to parents a few weeks ago. At this time, we have had 130 responses. Thank you to those of you that have participated. The goal of this is for parents to complete the survey for each of their students attending KA. We currently have 285 students so we are just shy of 50% participation. The more feedback we receive, the more information we have to look at and know what we are doing well and what we can continue to improve upon. If you haven't completed the Mid Year Parent Survey yet, please take a minute or two to do so by clicking here. It is quick and there are just a few questions that we would like you to respond to, for each of your Kinetic students. The survey will remain open for another week or so to give parents the opportunity to complete.
Congratulations to Mrs. Warren's class for being the top attendance award winner for the month of January! Her 4th grade class was in the lead with 99.47% attendance! The winning class each month is rewarded with an extra 15 minute recess.
Ms. Doherty's Class- 2nd Place
Mr. Cobey's Class- 3rd Place
Ms. Covarrubias's Class- 4th Place
Ms. Ross's Class- 5th Place
Our overall attendance has improved! We are still below our 97% goal, but just barely. As we have more school days, and attendance stays high, the percentage will go up, so meeting our 97% goal is attainable.
Should you have an absence that you know is coming up for your student, please make sure you notify the office ASAP (7 school days in advance) and complete an Independent Study contract. Independent Study Agreements do need to be followed, as outlined by the teacher, and turned in by the due date set in order to receive attendance credit.
Community Service totals for the end of the month of January are posted below. Our students have completed a total of 2,852 hours. 185 students have participated in community service and have earned at least one hour. Remember that our goal is 100% participation. There are about 100 students that do not have any hours logged. Letters will be sent home to notify parents in the upcoming weeks if their student(s) have 0 hours for the year.
Please check the Kinetic Calendar in your child's blue folder for dates/times of February Community Service events. Many of the school sponsored events do need to be signed up for PRIOR to the event, as there is a limited amount of space, depending on the event. PLEASE be sure to check our website for RSVP events and openings. If you can no longer attend an event that you signed up for, make sure you cancel your reservation, so another student can attend. Remember that Community Service opportunities that are not sponsored by the school are ok too!
