Hot Topics in this Update: Enrollment, Dress Code, Dates to Remember, Play Dates, New Hires, Progress Updates
We are just 5 weeks away from the start of school. Although the halls and rooms look stark now, there is a tremendous transformation that is underway getting the school ready. For a brand new school, this down-to-the-wire implementation of the basics is expected and we are right on schedule. We know for some of you it is difficult to imagine how the classrooms will look and how your child’s day will be scheduled but those items must wait a bit longer while we continue to coordinate all the many activities. We appreciate all of the offers of help and encouraging words as we race toward the finish which is really our beginning!
Our core financial resources are coming together as planned in preparation for state funding that comes later in the year. In the meantime, personal donations provide us with increased flexibility and the opportunity to build a strong financial base that will enhance the opportunities for our students. If you would like to make a monetary donation, you can do so through this link or drop by campus during regular hours.
Below are a few updates to share and some dates to bookmark.
Thus far, everyone who has signed the enrollment packet and returned it to us has been accepted into Kinetic Academy. The emailed notification of acceptance was titled “Confirmation of Enrollment”. If you have not received one of these emails but have submitted your packet, please email us immediately. We are not holding spots without a signed enrollment packet regardless of your pre-enrollment date. We have begun contacting the prior schools of enrolled Kinetic students to get records transferred.
Limited space is available in all grades. Fourteen thousand postcards targeted to family households in the surrounding zip codes were mailed today in an effort to close the final spots. Three information sessions have been scheduled in August. See the Events page for details. We have extra of these postcards available for placement in local establishments. Email us if you would like to pick up a stack.
Dress code guidelines have been published on our website. Additionally, Lands End has built a custom online shop for Kinetic Academy. It is the only place to order our embroidered logo on polos, jackets, and other items. Logo is optional and not required for dress code. Every purchase from Lands End means money back to our school. Click here to shop.
Closely related to dress code is the need to label items so that they can be easily found and returned to their owner. Mabel’s Labels are wonderful and durable. Use this link to purchase and Kinetic Academy gets money back! Share with your friends.
We have made edits to our school calendar which has been updated on our website. If you previously printed a version, please discard and take note of the new calendar. Note these important dates:
Meet the Teacher Night/Orientation Night- Tuesday, August 30th
First Day of School- Thursday, September 1st
Back to School Night- Thursday, September 15th
Play Dates/ Get Acquainted
Switching schools can be made a bit easier if there are friendly and familiar faces on the first day. We have solicited some parents from each grade to help organize some opportunities for the kids (and parents) to get together. We will send a schedule of August dates next week but 3rd grade parent Beth Kubin has offered up this Saturday, July 30th (tomorrow!) at Lake Park on Main St. in Huntington Beach starting at 11am. All grades and siblings are welcome. Beth will be near the playground equipment with a pop-up and some blue balloons to easily find her.
If you are interested in hosting a nerf battle, beach day, art in the park, or any other type of get together open to either all or one grade, please email us and we will get the word out!
There are so many things happening all at once…here are just a few to highlight the larger milestones in preparation for opening.
All 11 classroom teachers have been hired as well as our administrative assistant; bios are being updated as we get them completed
Have you seen our sign? We continue to ready the building with signage, paint, cleaning, and repairs
Furniture purchases continued this week. Once we have firm delivery dates we will put out a call for help and host a furniture assembly party!
Technology quotes & selections continue to be negotiated. This includes hardware, installation, ongoing support and training for the teachers and staff.
Our Google for Education infrastructure is being set up to allow access to email, applications, shared space for all our classrooms, staff and students
Teachers have begun professional development in STEM and NGSS
We have received final approval from the State Board of Education and our official numbering. This was required to get our grant money, our state loan, and our request for early distribution of funds for the students we will serve.
